"...the falls plunge 90m to the pool below, before cascading a further 230m to the base of the gorge. Just as impressive is the Herbert River Gorge with its towering cliffs and dry, rugged ridges"
Blencoe Falls
Girringun National Park
Queensland
With 230m of fall the water of the falls cascade through multiple layers. 230meters is a long way and it seems like there a actually several waterfalls stacked on top of each other, each one captivating in its own way.
The falls are made even more stunning by the shear rock walls to either side.
I enjoyed driving up Kirrama Range
The road to the falls is approximately 70kms or so, from the coast, beginning tarmac then transitions through to very broken tarmac, to the smoother gravel and eventually to dirt.
Lovely scenery with some spectacular views back to the coast
Good selection of great spots to choose from
Jambal walk — 20.6km return (allow 2 days) Grade: difficult
The Jambal walk is for experienced, self-sufficient hikers.
The Jambal walk follows the Juwun walk through open forest and into the Herbert River Gorge. Walkers then camp overnight at Blanket Creek walkers' camp before returning the same way.
When I began on the walking trail I was primarily looking for a way to access the head of the falls.
As soon as the official trail lead away from the falls I doubled back and went exploring down an old 4x4/farm trail, following it to the falls.
Along the way I met several rock wallaby like the one shown here, so cute!
I also met this beasty who came wandering through my campsite.
I swear, he was almost bigger than my Landy!
He was super mellow and was not bothered by me approaching close enough to capture video / pictures of him.
I only stayed in the park one night.
If I had more time available, I would love to have walked the Juwan and Jambal walks, camping overnight in the gorge.
I hope you have more time on your visit and are able to do just that.
