A weekend of waterfalls, Cairns Tablelands

Refreshingly cool

In hot tropical humid weather there is something incredibly refreshing about swimming in a cool fresh water at the base of a waterfall.

Surrounding Cairns on its landward side are

large hills and mountains covered in dense lush tropical rain forests and filled with numerous waterfalls, lakes,

and swimming holes

Distance

Driving from Cairns to Millaa Millaa township takes approximately 1.5 hours and is enjoyable just for its own sake, as it winds along the incredibly scenic road into the mountains through Little Mulgrave National Park.

Millaa Millaa Falls

Millaa Millaa township is set up high in the tablelands, inland from Cairns.

Only a short distance from town you will turn down a little country road that leads to three waterfalls:

• Millaa Millaa Falls

• Zille Falls

• Ellinjaa Falls.

One of the advantages of exploring tropical northern Queensland in the 'wet' season, is the large volume of water in the waterfalls.

Swimming & no crocs!

Even better is being able to swim in the falls/waterholes, especially on a hot humid tropical day like the day we were there !!

I want to thank fellow traveller Jari who I met at the NRMA Caravan Park in Cairns for the idea to travel in convoy to the waterfalls one Saturday morning, what an excellent idea that was - we had so much fun.

Jari and I visited the 1st three waterfalls together, then he had to head back to town, and I carried on exploring.

Jari I love your wonderful crazy happy energy, and look forward to our next adventure. Thankyou for the inspiration to visit the falls.
