Aussies largest granite boulder – why not walk straight up the face of it?

Bald Rock National Park is near the boarder between NSW & Queensland and was a short drive from Boonoo Boonoo National Park.

A massive granite boulder rises out of the surrounding mature forest to provide stunning 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside.

After a short stroll though the forest the short/direct route leads you out directly onto the granite boulder itself.. with white markers showing the path up the boulder its straight up you go.

There is a less direct route which I assume meanders through forest trails to reach the summit, but as those of you who know me, I am more of a ‘take-the-most-direct-route’ person.

Once at the almost top the summit trail meanders through numerous boulders perched on top of the main one.

The views from the summit are stunning and well worth the walk. The ‘balancing’ boulders defy reason.

It was hot up there the day I climbed and I was so desperate for some shelter that I actually sat in the shade of one of the boulders for a few mins… it does look a little precarious sitting there, but I assumed it had been there quite a while and took the risk that it would not decide to roll down over the edge, over my body in the process.

Phew, it didn’t.

There is an abundance of wildlife everywhere in Australia and I met several lizards sunning themselves up on the summit, but this creature is the one that captured my attention the most.

Do I recommend this walk, most definitely yes.
