Captain Cook Highway
Captain Cook Highway connects Cairns to Port Douglas and is a very scenic drive.
Narrow winding coastal bitumen road between tall forest covered mountains and the ocean.
There are ample places to stop along the coastal side of the road, but you will have to nip across the oncoming traffic to turn into them.... on a busy day on the road that can be a little dauting.
Whenever I see mountains like these I want to walk & climb them, but for the most part there are very few trails up into these mountains and the tropical rainforest is very dense, so I settled with long walks along the beach instead.
Rock Art
At one very popular spot numerous passers by have contributed to the stacked rock sculptures.
What I enjoyed the most
I enjoyed hanging out at a little spot at the Cairns end of the highway, a little spot where I was able to park Lulu the Landy on the sand, under the shade of the palms, and set my hammock in the trees.
I visited that spot on several different days and it is among one of my treasured memories.
Bringing it to life in this little video
I think this little video will give you a more complete sense of the wonder of this location, join me as I sway in the hammock under Coconut Palms in the Tropical Far North of Queensland.
