Tuesday 14 Jan - house-sitting assignment complete, truck is loaded, time to escape, destination Innes National Park. Yorke Penninsular, South Australia.
First thing to do before leaving the city was to deliver the adorable Leo to his dog-sitter.
As his owners are not yet back in the country, his regular sitter will look after him till they return.
Sharing the past 4 weeks with this little dog has been delightful, and although I was super keen to go camping, it was also somewhat sad to say farewell.
He seemed to enjoy our missions away and was brave enough to ride the electric skateboard, swim in the ocean and enjoyed assisting me to test my 'swag' on the back lawn.
First stop along the way was at Clinton Conservation Reserve.
Its a good place to get off the road and out of the traffic before you begin the last leg of the journey to the tip of the Penninsular. The stopping bay is not pretty, but getting out of your vehicle, put your feet in the water and you will appreciate the still beauty of the mangroves.
The landscape is quite monotonous from this point until you reach the National Park. The early settlers cleared all the native bush away and it seemed to me that I was driving past one paddock for about 2 hours!
Here is the official quote: " Innes National Park is a favourite for camping, fishing and surfing. Bushwalking is a great way to discover the park, with trails ranging from 30-minute strolls to four-hour treks. You’ll spot an abundance of birds and animals while you catch some of the best coastal views in South Australia. All of the park is accessible by 2WD, so it’s perfect for day visits and a paradise for beach lovers
Our first point of call was to go directly to our campsite at Pondalowie and set up for the night, then out to the beach and into the water.
Next - the beach....
A great way to begin the adventure and end the day... sunset at a beautiful beach. Off to spot some kangaroo or emu next....
