Fruit Bat Falls & Eliot Falls - on the Old Telegraph Track

I love waterfalls. Most particularly I love waterfalls I can swim in.

Northern Queensland is known for its crocodiles, waterfalls and their associated swimming holes are often (not always) a safe place to immerse yourself in cool refreshing water in a typically hot climate

The old Telegraph Track in Queensland's Cape York features two of the most picturesque waterfalls I have ever seen. And better than just seeing them, they are so incredibly accessible for swimming in to!

The drive up the Peninsular Development Road is quite a mission, so by the time you get to the falls you have well and truly earnt your swim.

Fruit Bat Waterfall

This waterfall is perfect swimming hole for the whole family, with shallow sections of the pool for children to play in. When I was here in August the water was a perfect temperature and clarity

Eliot Falls

The water in these falls is deeper than Fruit Bat Falls and as you can see it was crystal clear the day I was there. The swimming hole for the Twin Falls which is just around the corner from this fall is probably better suited for young children.... but I adored swimming in this falls. Fun to explore both up and downstream of the falls too.

As arduous as the Peninsular Development Road is, it is worth it to experience these waterfalls and the landscape they are set in.
