LEAVING YORKE, DESTINATON ONKAPARINGA NATIONAL PARK
With my niece due to fly out from Adelaide Airport it was time to start heading closer to the city.
Cruised the western coast of the Yorke Peninsula checking out a few small towns on the way.
Old ruins:
These were simply in the middle of a farmers paddock, on a back road through the countryside. There are lots of examples of these, but not as many as as easily accessible.
Take a quick tour to them below with me in the video below.
Mature gum trees, spacious camp sites and clean toilet nearby.
Koala and Kangaroo close by.
I think the key to walking the Australian bush is to listen out for little rustling noises and if you hear one to stop, wait a moment and you might experience an amazing encounter as I have had on several occasions with Echidna.
These creatures, sometimes known as spiny anteaters are the only living mammals that lay eggs.
Punchbowl Link Trail
Most the trails in the park are for walkers, but the Punchbowl Link Trail was recommended to me by the park ranger as a worthwhile ride.
This little video shows not only the bike ride, but also the waterhole, my new favourite waterhole.
Although, when you see the colour of the water, you will understand that I might not have gone swimming if the local ranger had not actually recommended it.
Do I recommend visiting Onkaparinga National Park?
Yes highly.
Its close to Adelaide and yet gets you right in among the native bush & wildlife. The drive to and from is also very scenic.
