Magnetic Island - wildlife wonderland

"Magnetic Island National Park features spectacular natural landscapes and seascapes including boulder-strewn headlands, hoop pines, sandy beaches and fringing coral reefs" according to the National Parks team, add abundant friendly wildlife and beautiful beaches = you have the perfect recipe for a wildlife wonderland.

Where is it?

Magnetic Island (Wulguru: Yunbenun) is an island 8 kilometres offshore from Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Magnetic Island - Wikipedia

Bungalow Bay Camping

Camping at Bungalow Bay Koala Village in Horseshoe Bay enhanced my overall experience of the Island due to the prolific wildlife in and around the campgrounds. Add a great atmosphere and good facilities, including a lovely pool and they get a tick from me.

This was also a good base to explore the Island from with the walking trail heads not very far from the campground.

Here are images of the wildlife I encountered during my stay at the campground

Walking Trails

Friendly people

Not only did I enjoy the wildlife & scenery of the island, my experience was enhanced by the people I met, from the friendly local I my vehicle was lined up next to on the ferry ride over, the staff working in the businesses and fellow travellers.

In particular I want to mention the following people:

Kahurangi who I met on a walking trail. Kia Kaha Kahu, all the best for your future plans on the island.

Paloma & Javiera for your friendship & for allowing me to ‘tour’ your camper/home.

Also wonderful to meet you John, I look forward to learning where you decide to live and to receiving some of your poetry!

The video.... I share my exploration of the Island here in this little video
