The video and imagery are not my typical National Park or off-road adventure.
Instead in this little blog post I share my time in Perth and introduce you to some of the dogs I hung-out with while housesitting in the area, before heading off to my next adventure.
Backstory / Timeline
Sept-Oct 2023: Drove across the top of Aussie - the Savannah Way.
Oct 2023: Drove down the West Coast
Nov 2023: Flew home to NZ to be with family and share Christmas, leaving Lulu the Landy in storage with family of friends for 2 months
Jan 2024: Flown (by employer) to Wujal Wujal to assist the Community with Cyclone Recovery post the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
May 2024: Flown (by employer) back home to NZ for quick visit, grab my gear
May 2024: I flew back to Lulu the Landy in Perth where she had been for an additional 5 months longer in storage than I expected when I left
June & July 2024: Perth, surrounds and then back up to the warmth of Exmouth
August 2024: Driving across the The Great Australian Bight
Some imagery from Perth waterfront taken early on a Sunday morning.
I love the curves and colours of the buildings featured here.
Sounds of bird calls on the waterfront
I enjoyed this close encounter with a beautiful Cormorant enjoying the warmth of the sun.
Estuary Hideaway Caravan Park
As you know I prefer camping out in the wilderness and seldom stay at 'caravan parks', but I admit I enjoyed my stay at this one.
Right on the water, with dolphins out in the estuary, stunning sunrises and reflections, not to mention decent amenities.
Check out the dawn through this timelapse (below). Stunning !!.
Yalgorup National Park
Covering 12000+ hectares and with 10 lakes this is a very scenic park to visit and very accessible.
Be sure not to leave any food scraps / rubbish bags out at night as the local wildlife is not at all timid!
I also learnt what Thrombolites are, and was at Lake Clifton on a perfectly tranquil day.
"Thrombolites are limestone structures formed by micro-organisms that resemble the earliest life on Earth"
House-sitting
I will occasionally look for a house-sitting assignment when I want to do a deep clean of the Landy, my clothes and linen and generally enjoy all that living in a house can offer such as regular hot showers and a real kitchen. I am typically done with all that after about a week, but I will sometimes take on longer assignments.
It is also an opportunity for me to enjoy some animal companionship.
I use and can recommend Trusted Housesitters: https://www.trustedhousesitters.com
The Video
Yes, I created a little video of my adventures in Perth, Harvey Estuary, Yalgorup National Park and with these delightful dogs I met while house-sitting, I hope you enjoy it.
Now it is time to get back out exploring.
In my next post I share my journey up Western Australia's Turquoise Coast to Francois Peron National Park.
Till then, thanks for sharing in this journey with me through this blog and video content.
