Continuing my exploration of national parks heading due West from Byron Bay the next one on the map is Boonoo Boonoo National Park.
The Cyprus Pine camp ground is a well
for and maintained bush camp with new composting toilets, large level camp sites with pit fires.
I enjoyed the company of this friendly local who spent several hours hanging out at my camp site.
Reading that there are Platypus living in the nearby water hole I set out a sunset hoping to spot one in the waterhole.
Sitting in a high spot overlooking the water hole I sat as still as I could, waiting to see a platypus.
Hearing a rustling through the undergrowth I was not sure what was approaching the water hole, although of course I knew it would not be a platypus, but I certainly did not expect this little fellow.
I headed back to the camp site before full dark with the intentions to look again at first light.
Great night around the camp fire of a neighbouring camper, talking of many ‘deep & meaningful’ things over some locally produced organic white wine.
First light showed a misty damp morning and this neighbour sitting in a nearby tree.
I set off for the water hole and was very very pleased to see some platypus.
Despite spending a lot of time watching it as it fed and moved through the water, I was unable to capture a clear image of it on the surface of the water before it would dive back under. Here is the best pic I captured... can you see it actually is a platypus?
A beautiful national park, with good easy (i.e. flat) walking trails along the riverbed & to the waterfalls.
