Stripping out the lining, creating a clean slate

In order to add the wiring for the solar panel I actually had to take out the interior lining of the Defender.

Removing It was both simple and complicated..

The whole process took a few hours to accomplish, because I also removed all the fittings that had been associated with the rear seats & seat belts at the same time.

Here is what it looked like before I began.

In the following pic the rear seats had already been removed, but the ceiling lining and side panels are still in place as are the rear seat belts and attachment points.

The lining was actually in excellent condition, when I began to strip it out I thought I may reinstall it, but as it came out I realised just how much more head room I would have by removing it.

My long term plan is to line the interior with a sound proofing/insulation material, so the decision is that the plush lining will go to the rubbish dump.

In the following picture the ceiling lining is out, most of the panels are off, but I still have to remove the rear seat & seat belt fittings/attachment points.

This pic below shows some of the seat belt attachment points that were removed.

Removing all the fittings was remarkably easy. There were only a few bolts/nuts that resistant, but liberal use of WD40 helped even them to come free.

Final result shown below: clean slate ready for the camper conversion.
